Shows to See: May

So much to see, so little time! It's Frieze Art Fair week/weekend in NYC, and there are many, many other fairs and events happening around the city this weekend. Hyperallergic did a great job summarizing everything here.

Benjamin Sutton of artnet also has a fresh take on Frieze and surrounding events.

Another fair happening this weekend (May 9-11) is Bklyn Designs, featuring contemporary furniture and lighting design coming out of Brooklyn.

On Saturday, May 10th, Kara Walker's highly anticipated installation in the Domino Sugar Factory opens to the public. The piece is sponsored by Creative Time and has the long but illuminating title: A Subtlety, or the Marvelous Sugar Baby: an Homage to the unpaid and overworked Artisans who have refined our Sweet tastes from the cane fields to the Kitchens of the New World on the Occasion of the demolition of the Domino Sugar Refining Plant

On May 13th at the Museum of Arts and Design: Multiple Exposures: Jewelry and Photography is the first museum exhibition to explore how contemporary jewelry artists transform and add new meaning to the pervasive images of this digital age.

And, finally, a personal plug. Andrea and I are both excited to have our work selected by curator Benjamin Sutton for the first ever Current: Gowanus, an exhibition and benefit showcasing the breadth and depth of visual art being made in Gowanus today.  The exhibit will be open 12noon to 8pm daily from May 15-18, 2014, with an opening benefit reception on May 14th. There are several events happening during the exhibition, so come on out to see great work and support Arts Gowanus!
